Строум сегодня мрак. Ретти и Драйз могли забивать столько шайб - но не могли никак шайбу поднять выше при броске. когда наконец Драйзу удалось поднять, то забили.

ОЦЕНКИ БРЮС МАККАРДИ
#4 Kris Russell, 4. The minutes are taking a toll on the veterans, none more so than Russell who is 5+ years older than the other six skaters (Klefbom, Larsson, Nurse, McDavid, RNH, Draisaitl) in the 20-minute-a-night club. For the second straight game Edmonton’s second pairing got absolutely crushed in possession, by roughly a 1:2 For:Against ratio across the board. They weren’t scored against but spent way too much time behind their own blueline. KR took another physical battering including a deflected puck right off the schnozz.

#5 Kevin Gravel, 4. A tad unlucky on the second Florida goal which bounced off his hip directly to the goal scorer. Some OK moments including one booming hit of Colton Sceviour, but just 40% shot share. Made one good defensive play when Talbot lost track of the puck in the blue paint.

#6 Adam Larsson, 5. Oilers’ top pairing was again their best, but got worked on the critical first goal, a play on which Larsson himself got walked. 4 shot attempts, 3 hits. Took a questionable penalty for pinning his man to the boards for a millisecond too long.

#8 Ty Rattie, 5. Had 2 fabulous looks, didn’t miss, but was robbed by a Hall of Fame goalie both times.

#18 Ryan Strome, 2. Oilers needed more than they got from their bottom 6 in this game. Strome struggled on the dot (4/13=31%) and it cost Edmonton dearly on the second Panthers goal — the third straight game a lost defensive-zone faceoff loss has directly cost a goal against (RNH in Washington, McDavid in Florida). His subsequent poor coverage was a factor in that goal, and in the 3-1 goal when he was on the penalty kill unit and failed to cut out a cross-ice pass. Had nothing going the other way, not so much as a shot attempt in 12½ minutes. His line had some good cycles but didn’t generate many shots. A couple of takeaways were the highlight of his night.

#22 Tobias Rieder, 5. His usual diligent effort, but didn’t have a lot going on offensively. Didn’t give up much the other way, and took one for the team when he blocked a rocket on the penalty kill. Killed off another poenalty in an instant when his strong rush drew a penalty.

#25 Darnell Nurse, 4. Like his partner Russell, spent way too much time in his own end of the ice. Did attempt to get involved offensively but nothing rhymed.

#27 Milan Lucic, 4. Busted his tail with 3 shots, 4 hits, and some hard forechecking. Was part of the d-zone coverage problem on the game-winner when he chased the play to his off-wing but failed to cut out the pass, this after failing to provide any winger support on the scrambled faceoff.

#28 Kyle Brodziak, 4. Some OK moments including a solid hit and a takeaway, but 0 shots and about that much offensive momentum from his line, which got outshot 6-2 during his 11 even-strength minutes.5/14=36% on the dot.

#29 Leon Draisaitl, 7. The best Oiler on the road trip was again on Thursday, splitting time between 2C and 1RW and threatening from both spots. Led the team with 8 shot attempts and 5 shots, and was rewarded with the only goal when he buried McDavid’s feed early in the third. Was absolutely robbed by Luongo’s glove on an earlier shot. Carried the puck with authority and dished it off effectively. Had one giveaway but immediately made up for it with an excellent takeaway, drawing a phantom penalty the other way in the process. Was in beast mode along the walls, winning battles with his stick, body, and skates. The only Oiler pivot not to get crushed on the dot, going 11/21=52% (the rest of the team was 14/46=30%).

#33 Cam Talbot, 6. Not the reason Oilers lost, but the second best goalie on the ice in a night Luongo was lights out at the other end. Deked by Evgenii Dadonov on the first goal, unlucky on the second on a deflection that skipped right to the goal scorer Nick Bjugstad, and unsighted on the third when he completely lost track of the puck through Aleksander Barkov’s screen and apparently didn’t see the pass that left Jonathan Huberdeau a wide open cage from the slot. Did make one stellar save after the horse was stolen, robbing Barkov on a one-timer from close range. Had some issues with rebound control and was lucky on a couple of occasions that a stray puck didn’t dribble into the net. 32 shots, 29 saves, .906 save percentage.

#39 Alex Chiasson, 4. Had very little impact on this game. 40% shot share including 0 shot attempts of his own. Did make one nice cross-ice feed to Draisaitl for an excellent chance. A couple of hits.

#44 Zack Kassian, 4. A decent effort with 4 shot attempts, a hit, and perhaps the lamest penalty of the season when he was somehow tabbed for charging when he bumped Vincent Trochek in front of the Florida bench. Had a spirited fight with former Flame Troy Brouwer and had the upper hand, er, fist. But he was part of the zone coverage issue on the powerplay goal that turned out the lights.

#77 Oscar Klefbom, 4. One of those Oilers who looked a little gassed, and little wonder given it was his 12th straight game of over 24:50 TOi in the last three weeks. He was burned by a goalmouth pass on the first Florida goal, and failed to deal with the giant Barkov on the third, adding his own big body to the giant screen in front of Talbot.

#83 Matt Benning, 5. His game continues to come around. Played a steady 15:49 on the third pair, led the D corps with 6 shot attempts and 3 shots including an excellent one-timer that tested Luongo and another hard shot off a nice rush and dirty dangle.

#91 Drake Caggiula, 5. Another spirited effort which included 3 shots and 2 hits. Got promoted to the first line in the final frame and contributed on the forecheck and the cycle.Took a stick in the windpipe but came back to finish the game.

#93 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, 4. Not the least of his problems was the bizarre slashing penalty he took in the final frame which resulted in the killer 3-1 goal. It was a vigorous but in my eyes legal back check in which Nuge’s stick whacked the ice but never touched his opponent, moreover it was called not by the zebra looking right at the play from 20 feet away (circled) but by the dude out at centre with the obstructed view. RNH — an honest player who is the furthest thing from a whiner — questioned the ref at some length both at the time and again when skating back on the ice after the goal, wondering what it was that he had done to violate the rules. Costly as it proved to be, I chose not to dock him for that misdemeanour, but it wasn’t his night generally. Part of the problem on the first Florida goal. Struggled to get his passes through, and found himself playing centre for the first time all season in the third period. Got in Trochek’s face after the Florida pepperpot appeared to knee McDavid late in the game. 3/8=38% on the dot, second best (!) on the team.

#97 Connor McDavid, 6. Some moments of magic such as a great first period rush when he wrong-footed Aarron Ekblad twice in rapid succession, then made a great centring pass while falling which Rattie just failed to finish. Made a terrific rush and pass to Draisaitl for the one Oilers goal. But had his hands full with the fabulous Barkov in his face, and got caught out on the first Florida goal on which he was a bystander rather than a participant. Coughed the puck on the empty netter, though it was all academic by then. Just 1/9=11% on the dot after a 17% game in Tampa on Tuesday.

#98 Jesse Puljujarvi, 3. The lone Oiler below 10 minutes (9:06), and with reason. Skated OK and did some decent grinding, but struggled to make clean plays with the puck in all three zones. His weak clearance and subsequent inability to change was a big factor in the first Forida goal. Didn’t have so much as a shot attempt of his own. May be facing a trip to Bakersfield in the near future because he’s not doing much that is helping the Oilers these days. Dicey times for the likable youngster.
