Чиа все равно президентом останется и будет контролировать работу нового ГМ и скорее всего поставит своего человека или того же Кита Гретцки.

KURT LEAVINS

CAM TALBOT. 6. Talbot kept the club in it when the Oilers failed to match the Coyotes effort out of the gate. His point-blank save on Oliver Ekman-Larsson was the best of 13 stops in the opening frame. And it came just before the McDavid break-away made it 1-0. Huge stop. You can’t blame Talbot at all on 2 of the goals that he allowed. One was a shot from the point that hit Conor Garland in the face and went in. The other was a wild bounce off the end boards which then hit Garland (who had returned, stitched up from the cut he suffered on the earlier goal) and popped in. And the 3rd one (the first of the night) was a screen where Talbot’s vision was severely impaired. Stopped 26 of 29. Deserved better.

CONNOR McDAVID. 6. Certainly controlled the flow of play (CF 60.47) while on the ice. Scored his 27th of the season after he took a chip pass from Ty Rattie and then blew by 2 defenders and beat the Arizona goalie for the 1-0. But that was his only shot on net of the evening. And Connor McDavid made a few uncharacteristic errors on defence (3 give-aways). Some of that was no doubt a product of trying to do too much at times. Although you can hardly blame him for not leaving it up to others. Bloodied on a high stick by Richard Panik that the officials either missed or decided not to call. Looked frustrated. Who can blame him?

RYAN NUGENT-HOPKINS. 7. The Oilers best player by quite a bit at both ends of the ice. His superb defensive play in his own slot not only nullified a dangerous chance against. It helped spring the attack in the other direction on the 1-0 goal. Give him an un-official assist on that play And it was Nugent-Hopkins’ nifty pass to Kris Russell that set up the 2-2 marker. A real assist on that one! The Nuge also drew a penalty but the Oilers only power play of the night didn’t result in a single shot on goal. +2 in 19:39. Named the game’s 3rd Star. Having a damn fine season.

TY RATTIE. 6. Put forth a good effort and stuck on McDavid’s flank for the entire game as a result. A clever flip pass found a streaking Connor McDavid for the 1-0. Had a good chance of his own in the 1st on a partial break-away but shot high. Rattie did hit the net twice and added 3 hits from a spirited effort on the fore-check. I imagine it was enough to earn him another game with #97. Solid.

DARNELL NURSE. 6. The Oilers best defenceman. Played 27:58. Had 4 shots, 3 hits and a block over that time. I docked him a half-mark for not taking his man aggressively enough on the 3-2 bounced off Garland’s leg. Pretty fortunate it went in, though, so I have a difficult time beating on Nurse too hard over that. Had sealed off his man effectively in his own zone which led to a turn-over and eventually the McDavid goal. Skated miles, lugged the puck lots in an effort to spur the attack. Needs to shoot more in that 1-3-1 power play formation. But a bigger part of the solution than the problem tonight.

KRIS RUSSELL. 5. Russell played an excellent 1st Period. But then a terrible give-away on an attempted pass from behind his own net blew up in his face. It led to a short but painful fire-drill that ended with the puck behind Cam Talbot on a screened point shot for the 2-1. Docked a full mark for that. Russell gained back a measure of redemption for that error in the 2nd Period. He darted in from the point and deposited a slick pass by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins behind Darcy Kuemper for the 2-2. That was his 2nd of the season. 4 hits and 2 blocks in 23:42.

LEON DRAISAITL. 4. Its going to be a long night when you get 0 shots from the guy on pace for close to 100 points on a team that has a hard time scoring. Leon Draisaitl and Toby Rieder got caught out on a long PK shift on the 2-1. Played a bunch again (24:32) and looked gassed by the 3rd Period. Like his buddy McDavid, I felt the TOI resulted in a couple of turn-overs later in the evening as he tried in vain to create something on the attack. Was on the right side of the puck most of the night (CF% 63.41, nearly a team best). 56% on the dot.

MILAN LUCIC. 5. Another solid game. It was his fore-check and subsequent pass to Nugent Hopkins set up Kris Russell on the 2-2. For that effort Milan Lucic earned a well-deserved assist. Had 2 shots, 3 hits and 2 takeaway’s. He also had an impressive 1st Period back-check which prevented a chance. It’s been a bad year for Lucic. But he wasn’t part of the problem tonight.

ALEX CHIASSON. 4. When the club is reluctant to shoot on the power play you take the stick out of the hands of your best net-front guy. Alex Chiasson had decent enough numbers on chances for and against. Unfortunately for him though a horrendous give-away at his own blue-line forced Cam Talbot to make a big save off of Clayton Keller. And he was also part of the pain on the 1-1. 2 shots, 2 hits, -1.

ADAM LARSSON. 5. A physical presence against a hard-working Coyotes club. Adam Larsson led the Oilers with 6 hits. And the puck was generally speaking headed in the right direction while he was on the ice (CF% 62.16, 23-14). Created a bit of offence by punching up the right side with the puck on a couple of occasions. TOI 21:52.

CALEB JONES. 5. A shot, a hit. A take-away. A give-away. Jones played a pretty steady 19:55 alongside Larsson. How Richard Panik did not get called for throwing Caleb’s stick away I’ll never know. But it wasn’t a game-deciding event. A bounce-back game for him after a couple tougher efforts lately.

JUJHAR KHAIRA. 3. Jujhar Khaira is not capable of centering an NHL 3rd line. We keep seeing evidence of it, night-in and night-out. But who else will Ken Hitchcock run out there? What are his other choices? Khaira had giveaway’s in both of the first 2 periods where I felt the pace at the pivot position overwhelmed him. Just 29% on the dot. J.J. puts an effort into each game and had 4 hits tonight. But he’s miscast.

RYAN SPOONER. 3. I saw a grittier effort from Ryan Spooner tonight. But he still couldn’t convert that into much in the way of offence. Had 3 hits, but managed just a single shot in 11:23. Too often on the wrong side of scoring chances for and against. Meanwhile, Khaira was playing center instead of the guy Spooner was traded for.

JESSE PULJUJARVI. 4. I have no quibble with the kid’s defence. He is playing solid on that side of the puck and had strong 2 takeaway’s. But one shot on net aside tonight, Jesse Puljujarvi’s offence was non-existent. I felt his attacking game lacked physicality and urgency.

MATT BENNING. 3. Really struggled, and beat the puck square particularly in his own zone. Benning knew he was and battled, but he was swimming upstream all night. 2 shots, a hit and a give-away in 12:08.

KEVIN GRAVEL. 4. Like Benning, spent a lot of time in his own end. And like his partner, Kevin Gravel attempted to battle through it with decidedly mixed results. Was the better of the two on the 3rd pair, though. A shot, a hit, a block and a give-away in 12:23.

KYLE BRODZIAK. 5. Kyle Brodziak had some luck getting the puck and keeping it in the opposition zone. But he also took a penalty 185 feet from his own net which Arizona converted on the resulting power play. Did win 80% of his face-offs. 3 shots on net and a hit in just 8:20.

TOBIAS RIEDER. 2. Absolutely crushed in terms of shot shares. Toby Rieder posted an ugly All Events CF% of 31.25 (5-11). Couldn’t get the puck out of his own end on the 2-1 Power Play goal. One shot in 18:43. Goal-less in 32 games. Maybe it’s time Rieder sat for one? Could it hurt?

ZACK KASSIAN. 6. The only guy on the 4th line who had anything going. It was Zack Kassian who gained the zone on the 2-2 goal. He and Lucic put in solid work along the boards, and then it was Kassian who caused the distraction out front long enough for Russell to put the puck home. Offered good coverage on a Nurse pinch and ultimately broke up the developing 3-on-2. Played 10:22. Most of it well.

согласен - бездарно. нет ни паса нормального ни скоростей, ни бросков. игра в обороне, как всегда кошмар.
